Shiawassee County 911

You can now text 911 in an emergency. It is always best to call if you can, but in the case where you are unable to make a voice call you can now text. Some examples may be: hearing impaired, can’t/unable to speak, domestic violence situation, or a witness to a crime in progress. This option is not as fast as making a voice call so if it is safe to call, please do so.

Text-to-911 Facts:

  • Text-to-911 is the ability to send a text message to reach 911 from your mobile phone
  • Text-to-911 is as simple as entering 911 in the “to” field of a text message.
  • Don not text and drive. Pull over to a safe area first.
  • Text-to-911 should only be used in situation where you are unable to call or it is unsafe to make a voice call.
  • Do not Text-to-911 to “test” your phone. It is for emergencies only.
  • Please be prepared to answer questions and keep messages short and simple
  • Not all cell phone providers offer Text-to-911

When a disaster happens you need to have a plan. A good way to be prepared is to follow the Do 1 Thing program. Each month they provide steps to prepare yourself for an emergency. Please take the time to go to their website by clicking here and look over the information.

Weekly Garbage Service

Each home is allowed one 95-gallon container and one recycle container. Containers are to be stored on private property at all times except on the regularly scheduled day of pickup which is Thursday for Garbage and every other Friday for recycle. All refuse must be placed at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on your collection day. Once the refuse has been picked up please move the container back to your designated cart storage area.  In the event of a holiday then the pickup will be delayed one day. Something to Note

If you are buying or selling a home in the Village you will need to schedule a free sewer inspection with the Village prior to closing. If there are any violations they must be addressed and corrected prior to the closing date and re-inspected.
